D Ribose Powder
Ribose, a unique, 5-carbon sugar that occurs naturally in all living cells forms the carbohydrate portion of DNA and RNA, the building blocks of life. Ribose is also the sugar that begins the metabolic process for production of adenosine triphosphate (or ATP). ATP is the major source of energy used by cells - including muscle tissue - for normal function. When you exercise, some of the ATP that your body uses for energy is lost from your cells and must be replaced. Research has shown that decreases in ATP can be as much as 37% percent after periods of high-intensity exercise.
Ribose is the only compound the body uses as a starting point to replace these energy-producing molecules. However, Ribose production in skeletal muscles is a slow process, and cannot always keep up with the loss of energy during strenuous, intensive exercise. Under normal conditions, it may take up to 72 hours to completely restore ATP molecules that are lost due to intensive exercise.
Ribose is produced in the body from glucose. But as with other metabolites, like L-carnitine and creatine, ingesting ribose can bypass the body's slow production pathways (caused by rate limiting levels of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) which results in production of ATP molecules at a higher than normal rate. Ribose can be directly used to rebuild the energy-producing molecules as the cells use them up by replenishing the 'A' portion (Adenine Nucleotides) of ATP.
As a result, your body can quickly rebuild its ATP supply, making it available for maximum performance. Moreover it has been suggested by some scientists that ribose may help limit the loss rate of ADP, thereby increasing re-synthesis of ADP back into ATP, which would be further enhanced by concurrently taking supplemental creatine.
