Waxy Maize Starch

WMS has been shown to pass through the stomach 80% faster than dextrose, consequently restoring muscle glycogen levels 70% faster than any other carbohydrate, whilst raising insulin levels on a par with dextrose. This is due to WMS being almost solely composed from the high-molecular weight ( between 500,000-700,000 daltons, in comparison to dextrose at 180 daltons), highly-branched chain carbohydrate polymer, amylopectin.

Science dictates that the higher the molecular weight of a carbohydrate, the lower it’s osmolality in solution. The lower the osmolality, the more hypotonic the solution is. The more hypotonic the solution is, the quicker it passes through the stomach into the small intestine.
