Diindolylmethane [DIM] 100mg x 120 Capsules
Diindolylmethane, or DIM, is a naturally occurring phytonutrient of the Indole class. Found primarily in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, sprouts and cauliflower, DIM has a potent ability to regulate sex hormone balance in both men and women.
However, despite being readily found in cruciferous vegetables, DIM from food sources is often very poorly absorbed due to its extremely low solubility, and so these foods rarely exhibit more than a weak effect from the DIM they contain. Supplemental forms of DIM however are much more readily bioavailable, and even relatively small doses have been shown to have a significant effect.
The prime function of DIM is to optimise the effects of estrogen in both sexes, and it does this by altering the way estrogen is metabolised, reducing formation of the 16-hydroxy estrogen metabolite and increasing the synthesis of 2-hydroxy estrogen. This change in the balance of metabolites results in superior libido and mood in men, reduction of the aromatization and binding of testosterone to other proteins, and exhibits protection against certain forms of cancer in both sexes.
In recent studies, DIM supplementation has also been identified clinically to improve certain aspects of immune function, and current trials are investigating its use to help combat hard to treat viruses such as HIV and hepatitis.
The hormone optimising and antioxidant effects of DIM occur both in men and women, and may be most beneficial of all to elderly and highly active populations such as athletes.
Do not take DIM supplements if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
