Description

BSD Optimise™ Milk and Whey Complete Unflavoured

Optimise™ Milk and Whey Complete brings you the closest to mothers milk that is possible! Using Milk Protein and Whey Protein in ratios identical to Mothers Milk we have blended the ideal protein source for short and long term protein release.

Both the major milk proteins elicit different metabolic responses based primarily on their speed of absorption. Casein strongly inhibits protein breakdown for sustained periods (anti-catabolic) whilst whey strongly stimulates protein synthesis for short periods (anabolic). Based on these different characteristics, it is possible to use whey and casein either alone - or in combination - to exploit their unique biological effects. For example, WPC is ideal when taken immediately upon rising and peri-workout, whilst MPC is ideal when taken last thing at night or at other times when frequent feeding isn't possible. But for an everyday protein source to increase daily protein intake, a combination of the two proteins may be the best solution.

Contrary to what has now become widely purported as fact, consuming a casein / whey mix does not result in a protein source that retains the full anabolic / anti-catabolic properties that are seen in these two proteins when taken alone. The reason for this is that when casein is added to other 'faster' protein sources such as whey, it slows the absorption of the protein that it is taken with, resulting in less stimulation of protein synthesis. However, in the case of whey this can be extremely beneficial. By slowing down whey's rapid absorption it is possible to drastically reduce the levels of oxidation that normally occur when whey is taken alone. Moreover, casein has (uniquely) been shown to block the breakdown of the coveted whey fractions in the intestine, increasing the lifetime of some of the whey microfractions by a factor of 15. This increases the utilisation of whey, and consequently increases levels of the health promoting microfractions that are absorbed intact.

Having established the benefits of combining whey and casein in a single protein source, the next step is to determine in what ratios these proteins should be combined.

The specific ratios of whey to casein is species specific, so we can obtain clues as to what might be optimal for us by looking at human milk - as it would be fair to assume the proportions of whey to casein found here would allow for maximum absorption, with minimal oxidation. Human mother's milk contains a balance of casein to whey protein of 50% - 55% whey protein, and 45% - 50% casein protein. This is a far different balance than cow's milk, which is about 80% casein and 20% whey protein. Moreover, the protein microfractions present in the two milks are significantly different. Human mother's milk contains as much as 17% lactoferrin, while cow's milk contains about 1% lactoferrin. It is only logical to conclude that growing humans should thrive on the natural balance of whey protein to casein that is found in mother's milk, and whilst it may be difficult to duplicate the protein fractions it contains, we can duplicate the balance of whey and casein.
